Boston Terriers Breeders
Boston Terriers Breeders - History
Naturally enough, the Boston Terrier characteristics changed with time. Originally the dog weighed about 44 pounds. Its purpose was pit fighting until the bloody sport was banned. "Round heads" or "Bull Terriers" started to take part in exhibitions. The first Boston Terrier was shown in 1878. A few years later the American Bull Terrier club was formed. However, the name of the breed remained unspecified. Dog fanciers from Boston and the Boston area had to rename the club due to an inappropriate breed name. Thus, the dog became known as the "Boston Terrier" and the club was called the Boston Terrier Club. Since that time, the club promotes Boston Terriers all it can. In 1893, the AKC registered the Boston Terrier and opened the Stud Book. That year became a turning point in the development of the breed. From that time on, breeders have been following the sole bred standard, which is decisive for any breed of dog. Nowadays, Boston Terriers enjoy popularity not only in the United States, the motherland of the breed, but also worldwide. |
