Boston Terrier Dog PictureIn the Boston Terrier Dog picture gallery, you can see purebreds of various sizes from 10 to 25 pounds in weight and from 15 to 17 inches at the withers. This breed is also called the Boston bull. It is classified in the Mastiff and AKC non-sporting group, because it’s a Terrier breed only by name. Dogs of this breed look much like slender Bulldogs. It’s one of the first American dog breeds. The ancestors of modern Boston Terriers were pit-fighting dogs bred down in size from the English Bulldog and the English White Terrier, which is now extinct. The original Boston Terrier was around 44 pounds in weight. Adding French Bulldogs to the foundation stock helped create smaller dogs. The first breed club was founded in 1889 in Boston. It was named the American Bull Terrier Club, but Bull Terrier fanciers found this name inappropriate and the breed got its present-day name. The first Boston Terrier Dog was shown in 1870, but the AKC recognized the new breed in 1893. As it can be seen in the Boston Terrier Dog picture galleries, coat color and markings were not important in this breed in the 19th century. In the early 1900s, the dark coat color and white markings became the essential feature of the breed. In the Boston Terrier Dog picture nowadays, you’ll see a very intelligent, gentle, alert, and well-mannered dog. The breed has a characteristic square outline with the body length almost similar to the wither height. The balance and overall impression of a show dog is more important than any measurement taken separately. The wither height of the Boston Terrier varies from 15 to 17 inches. As for the weight, there are three groups within the breed: under 15 pounds, between 15 and 20 pounds, and between 20 and 25 pounds. Large round eyes create the impression of intelligence and alertness in Boston Terrier Dogs. The face in these dogs is short, wide, with a well-developed stop, small erect ears, large black nose, and strong square jaws. The coat of these dogs is short, glossy, silky to touch, and fine in texture. The accepted coat patterns are black and white, brindle and white, seal and white, or brown and white. You cannot see solid-colored dogs in the Boston Terrier Dog picture galleries. ![]() |
