Boston Terriers Breeders - Pictures
Boston Terriers Breeders - General DescriptionBoston Terriers are good companion dogs. The breed is gentle, intelligent, affectionate towards its owner and friendly with strangers. The Boston Terrier is easy to train, but sensitive to the tone of its owner's voice, so harsher punishments are not usually even necessary. They generally get along well with other dogs and pets, though males may show aggression to the same sex. The Boston Terrier has an excellent personality and many winning characteristics, it is no surprise that the Boston Terrier is one of the most popular dogs in the US.The Boston Terrier is one of the few dog breeds that is native to America. The Breed has many nicknames, such as the "American Gentleman" and "Boston Bulls". Boston Terriers were originally bred to fight in dog fighting pits in the Boston, Massachusetts's area. The Boston Terrier results from a crossbreed between Bull Dogs and Bull Terriers. The American Bull Terrier Club was organized in 1889 by several owners of these "Boston Bulls". They bred and showed their dogs as Bull Dogs and Bull Terriers. The name of the club was changed to the Boston Terrier Club of America, since it could be argued that the "Boston Bulls" were neither Bull Dogs nor Bull Terriers. These dogs were first exhibited as Round Heads and as time went on breeders met with numerous obstacles, but they would not give up after years of hard work. The Boston Terrier Club of America was organized in 1891, and being a Boston bred dog, the name was changed from the Round Heads to the Boston Terrier. The most momentous event in the history of the Boston Terrier occurred in the year 1893. After two years of trying to have the breed recognized, The American Kennel club admitted Boston Terriers to recognition for registration in the Stud Book, and the Club as a member of the American Kennel Club.
