Teacup Boston Terrier

There is no such breed as a Teacup Boston Terrier. Very tiny Boston Terrier puppies are born because of inbreeding smaller purebred Bostons or runts that don’t fit the breed standard for the Boston Terrier. Since the demand for Teacup Boston Terriers is high, they are produced by irresponsible breeders that use unethical methods.

A full-sized Boston Terrier weighs between 10 and 25 pounds. The ancestors of the breed were much larger and weighed around 44 pounds. Nowadays, when this breed is no longer used for its original task of pit fighting, there is no need in large dogs. According to the AKC breed standard, this breed comes in three sizes: from 10 to 15 pounds, from 15 to 20 pounds, and from 20 to 25 pounds. This breed makes wonderful family companions and champions in agility, obedience, and tracking events. A Teacup Boston Terrier is used solely as a pet and cannot participate in dog sports, except for conformation shows. Major canine registries don’t register Teacup Boston Terriers, so they cannot participate in shows for purebreds.

The Teacup Boston Terrier is never genetically sound; it’s prone to a number of hereditary diseases and breeding depressions that occur when breeding close relatives. These dogs have a shorter lifespan than common-sized Bostons, cannot breed, and usually end up with high vet bills. It often happens that owners surrender their Teacup Boston Terriers to rescues or shelters, because they cannot provide proper treatment for their pets.

Those who want to have a small dog as a companion for sport or as a playmate for children should buy a full-sized Boston Terrier that is active, healthy, friendly, and easy to maintain. Miniature dogs are generally more expensive than full-sized ones. Prices for Teacup Boston Terrier puppies start at $500. These dogs also need more care, vet attention, clothes, and special food. A tiny puppy is very fragile and cannot be trusted with children. Miniature dogs are difficult to housebreak and train. They tend to develop bad habits and manipulate the owner. When buying a Teacup Boston Terrier you support irresponsible breeders who care for profit only.
